Because we are so new, Veterans for Afghanistan is not yet set up to take direct funding (other than the cash donations we’ve raised at our AFGHANISTAN STORIES events).  We are developing a detailed vetting process for the nonprofits and non-govermental organizations we endorse, and in the future we hope to share many more excellent, proven organizations who we trust and believe in to take your donations and maximize the tangible, lasting results of their efforts and expenditures.  We will share more information with you as we continue toward this process.

As of now, we are proud to endorse the following organizations with whom we have direct relationships:

Afghan Child Education and Care Organization (AFCECO) – an Afghan-led orphanage program that does amazing work not just to provide Afghan children with their basic needs, but also to prepare them to become successful adults in a modern Afghanistan where all citizens are respected equally, regardless of gender, religion, or ethnic background.  We know and work with Andeisha, the dynamic Afghan woman who directs the program.  We firmly believe that AFCECO is what hope in Afghanistan looks like, and we are proud to support all that they are doing.  Please consider donating onlinevia CharityHelp International, AFCECO’s fiscal sponsor in the United States.  To learn more about AFCECO’s sponsors and activities, see the developing website at Hope for Afghan Children which we support and participate in.

Artfully Unforgotten – a nonprofit based in New York City and founded by Heather Metcalfe that is raising funds for the Mashale Noor School, the Business Council for Peace, and the Orthopedic Workshop and Physiotherapy Center in Afghanistan through public speaking, a documentary and book project, and art projects in NYC. Heather spoke and generously donated a soccer ball, hand-sewn by the women of a women-owned business in Balkh province, that was auctioned for $250 at our third AFGHANISTAN STORIES fundraiser.

Afghan Women’s Writing Project – an online project founded by novelist and journalist Masha Hamilton that provides Afghan women a forum to tell their own stories, in their own words, to the English-speaking world. Volunteer writers coach Afghan women in their writing, and AWWP takes donations to purchase thumb drives and laptops that enable Afghan women to write their stories and publish them online for the world to read. Masha spoke at our first AFGHANISTAN STORIES fundraiser.

Operation Dreamseed – a nonprofit founded by Army veteran Todd Schmidt that sends school supplies to U.S. troops to place directly into the hands of children in Afghanistan. If you prefer to donate supplies rather than money, this is a great program that we highly recommend.
